Weekly Workshops
You know you have accomplices in this work. They may not be down the hall from you, but they are here at S4EL from across the country. To date, we’ve benefited from the wisdom of serving leaders, aspiring leaders, and those who help grow leaders from New York, New Jersey, Texas, Georgia, Illinois, Connecticut, Hawaii, Washington, Montana, Tennessee, Colorado, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and California.
This is a workshop, not a webinar. Webinars on coping with pandemic and building racial justice have been great, and we have nothing against them at S4EL. But we offer something different. This is the place to strategize, solve problems, or sometimes just vent.
We meet via Zoom.
2nd Wave MTSS that Meets this Moment
Building culturally responsive and democratic systems to include all kids and support them.
Open Mic: Give Help & Get Help
Whatever you need or whatever you’ve got, bring it here. We’ve got you!
Curriculum & Assessment To Meet this Moment
Looking ahead to 2021-22, we can figure out the curriculum that we must teach to continue to learn from the lessons of racial justice and coping with pandemic. We can also plan for authentic formative assessment to kick off the year.
Teacher Empowerment
Here’s our chance to strategize about teacher support for the Summer that will really count next year. With all the federal funds coming in, we have a once-in-a-career opportunity. Come and plan together.
Disrupting our Sections of the School-to-Prison Pipeline
Looking back over this year and planning for next, what can we do in our schools to meaningfully disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline?

SEL for Strength and Caring rather than compliance
How do we plan for Fall so that we begin with an ethic of care, rather than compliance?
Teacher Empowerment
Support for teachers includes nurturing their social, emotional, and physical health. And it goes further to trusting them to make difficult curricular decisions, to reach out to families, and to gain new skills for culturally responsive teaching in this pandemic age.
Disrupting Our Sections of the School-to-Prison Pipeline
We can disrupt the sections of the school-to-prison pipelines in our schools. Problem solve and strategize with committed leaders who feel likewise.
SEL for Strength & Caring, Rather than Compliance
Since 2020, social and emotional learning has moved to the forefront. At S4EL, we plan how to build meaningful connections, strength to meet the challenges of pandemic and racial injustice.
Family Outreach
Building authentic, reciprocal relationships with families. We’re all trying to get on the same team, but is that Team School or Team Kid?
Curriculum & Assessment that Meet this Moment
Plan for curriculum that helps our students become more capable and powerful in their own lives, that lifts up the excellence of all our cultures, that deconstructs the ravages of pandemic and racism. Plan also to use formative assessment genuinely, as standardized testing takes a back seat in this moment.
